Poem I submitted for School Magazine contest

Leaving the Lighthouse

I tripped and I fell on a crack in the foundation.

Too hasty, too proud, we forget our complications.

We hide in our lighthouses, avoiding the storm;

Crinkled with doubt, our hearts change and deform.

We fear the ocean, too large to comprehend.

Frightened to let go, on lifejackets we depend.

We call all our friends, most young and some old,

But nobody is here, every hand feels so cold.

We are an open book, exposed for the world to see.

We run to the ocean, thinking this is the place to be.

The storm is still there, we are lost and confused.

The world is still cruel, we’re afraid and abused.

We seek our shelter in the tower of light.

Cowardly, afraid, we don’t want to fight.

Unknowingly, the tears pour out of our eyes.

If we are not careful, here’s where our hope dies.

The crashing, pattering, and the growling ceases.

We look outside and the world’s not in pieces.

The rain brought us together, our hearts became one.

The sliver lining is here, the clouds are undone.

The mist appears, it is bursting with serenity.

There’s nothing to fear, there’s beauty in calamity.

Our minds are wide open and so is our door.

We both cried to the ocean “We are lost no more.”

I'm starting a livejournal. If you think I spell badly, it's probably because I spell things the Great Britain way. (:
